Galloping Video is a video production company specializing in the cutting horse and reined cowhorse industry. They have been recording professional quality video at horse shows for over 10 years and market videos and DVD's to their clients via their web site.

Previously Galloping Video provided CreateSource with an .wmv or .mpg video encoded to the correct resolution, and CreateSource deployed it on their site using standard embedding techniques. In 2008, their site was redesigned and CreateSource seized the opportunity to update their video deployment methods by adding a dynamic Flash video player.

The video player shown was developed for Galloping Video. The Flash player frame and controls are all that initially loads on the page. The Flash player reads in an XML file to gather the list you see of actual videos and captions. When play is pressed, the selected video begins to stream. Flash loads the buffer with enough data to continue playing at the current download rate. Once playing, the video continues to load data during play, delivering a faster and painless video experience.

Accessibility and usability is also a major concern in deploying video. We use the open source Javascript library SWFobject that provides alternate content in the event Javascript or Flash is not installed and enabled. If you watch closely as the page loads, an image first appears, then as Flash is detected, the video player replaces the content. This is a more pristine approach to deploying Flash as opposed to the invalid code provided by Adobe/Macromedia.

The Flash player shown above only contains a single video for example purposes, but may contain references to as many videos as required. Galloping Video's next web site update includes a server-side .mpg to .flv converter that will allow them to completely manage the updates to their Flash video player.
